Breaking News - Young Great Spotted Woodpecker - Spotted

Hello!!! I just had to post to say that I'd seen the first (of hopefully many) sightings of a young great spotted woodpecker. It was being fed breakfast this morning by a very attentive parent :)

Unfortunately by the time I'd come back with my camera, the young one had moved to a different branch and was not so visible, so no photos. Hopefully between Steve and I we will get something!

Later I saw a parent flying back and forth to one of the taller trees where there was a young one. Not sure if these were the same birds or not. There are quite a few woodpecker's that come for the food.

So it's all very exciting at the moment in the garden :)

These are two wonderful photos that Steve took a couple of weeks ago of Mrs P stocking up on fat block to take back to the nest :)

I hope that you see something exciting today in the natural world near you, bye for now, Natasha :)

  1. Exciting news - Great photos of the adult .....I do hope you get lucky and are able to get a photo of the young.. It's annoying when you know they are there but they are hidden by a branch or leaves.... fingers crossed ... x :)

    1. Thank you :) I tried this morning as there was a young one on the fat block (it hasn't taken it long to learn the ropes!) but it was so dingy, and all the pictures are shaky, and I was inside as I didn't want to scare it away, which didn't help. Hopefully next time!
